Funny how you say it's fun and yet say it's bad. I always thought fun was the point of playing a game.
Another thing, since you want it to be more realistic, I guess all the magic should be removed, right? I don't think people in the old days did a lot of spell casting. And, of course, you can't really learn a weapon just by picking it up and using it, so each skill you learn should take a while to get. You know, you should have to attack a practice dummy a lot, slowly getting better and better. To be realistic, lets say you have to spend a few months training with a weapon before you can actually go out fighting anything. The armor system is pretty silly too. No one could craft a full set of armor like that that quickly. Here's an idea, you go to the crafter, order the armor, probably pay him a bit upfront, and then come back a few days later and pick up your finished armor. What else isn't realistic... I know, the monsters! What's with all those "skales" and "oni" and stuff? Those aren't real. They should go, and be replaced by wolves and bears and things. Basically, make the pet animals the only monsters. And of course, the storylines would have to be drastically changed. When the last time you saw lich lords, plague monsters and evil gods?
Anyway, I think you get it. It's a game, get over it.
